Access Staff Expertise at SunCorp
Earlier this year, we began this series of articles to introduce you to some of the staff at SunCorp. We encourage you to use these experts as resources, and contact them with questions or for advice on the daily operations at your credit union.
This month, we feature three employees who work with credit unions on a daily basis. You have probably talked with them on the telephone, but have never seen them. Here is some background on these three SunCorp experts.
Amanda Vieregger began with SunCorp more than 5 years ago. She started working on the night shift with our check deposit / collection service, and then moved to the check research department. Amanda now spends most of her time assisting credit unions with our SunCapture branch capture check image service – answering support calls, processing adjustments, and handling service implementations. You can contact Amanda with Branch Capture questions at avieregger@suncorp.coop.
Amy Lobato has been a Member Services Representative with SunCorp for about 2½ years after working in Wyoming credit unions for more than 5 years. At the credit unions, she supervised their payment services including share drafts, ACH, and wires. At SunCorp, she handles a variety of duties including billing, new accounts, and mergers. Given her past experience with payment services, she also enjoys providing SunCorp members with software support on systems such as APEX-ACH and Image Connect. Amy can be reached at alobato@suncorp.coop.
Monica Culver manages our Member Services Department, which includes the Call Center and our wire and ACH operations. Throughout her 10 years at SunCorp, she has held positions as a wire room operator, Member Services representative, Cash Manager, Payment Services Representative, and Operations Analyst. Monica enjoys interacting with members as much as possible, and strives to maintain member service as her team’s number one priority. You can email Monica at mculver@suncorp.coop.
Volunteer and Staff Demonstrate Service Culture
SunCorp employees adhere to the credit union philosophy of People Helping People and demonstrate a service culture both on and off the job. In February, SunCorp employees helped raise over $1,000 for emergency dental care for a small village in Haiti following their massive earthquake on January 12th. The effort was coordinated by Executive Assistant Bonnie Ginther, who learned that SunCorp Board member Don Killeen was planning to travel to Haiti in February on a dental mission with a group of dentists and dental students from the University of Nebraska Dental School. Included in the group were two of Don’s sons, one a dentist and the other a dental student. Their goal at the Kobonal mission located near Hinche, Haiti, was to provide emergency dental care, similar to a mission the group performed in 2009.
However, this year the devastation from the earthquake left the village inundated with refugees who left Port-au-Prince due to scarce food and water. When the earthquake hit, Don’s group donated their existing antibiotics and pain relievers in storage at the village to the local hospital. The dental mission provided emergency treatment to over 700 patients, including the extraction of approximately 1,500 teeth during the week.
Bonnie is part of SunCorp’s Activity Committee, whose members are chartered with planning fun and low cost events for employees. The committee developed the idea of Coins for Hope/Dollars for Jeans, encouraging SunCorp employees to donate their spare coins
and paying $1.00 per day during the month of February in exchange for the opportunity to wear jeans to work. SunCorp employees donated over $800 to Don’s mission. The money went towards replenishing supplies that were donated to the earthquake relief effort and for soccer balls for the children of the village. Staff from a visiting vendor asked Bonnie why all the employees were wearing jeans and donating money. After learning of the fundraising effort, they not only contributed to SunCorp’s fund, but also took the idea back to their office and raised more than $250 in donations.
Don has served on SunCorp’s Board of Directors since 2003 in addition to his position as Chairman of Peoples Choice FCU in Lincoln, Nebraska. His role on the mission was to assist with the logistics and organization of the mission. “Seeing the smiling faces of the children after being treated makes me believe that we have received far more from this trip than what we contributed,” said Don at the end of the trip.
“The effects of that earthquake were felt around the world. The Activity Committee wanted to immediately help. We have a great staff who cares about others. Knowing Don was personally going there inspired us to give even more.” said Bonnie Ginther.
